Puppy Kindergarten

Our puppy kindergarten class is a hands-on experience designed to teach the essentials of cultivating a well-adjusted family pet. Sugar Paws goes beyond teaching a sit or down; we offer safe exposure and socialization during off-leash puppy play, husbandry skills, and a fun and welcoming environment for both owners and their puppies.

6 weekly classes, 1-hour each.

Week 1 is a human-only orientation and weeks 2-6 are with puppies.

Age requirements:

At the class start date, puppies should be between the ages of 8-18 weeks

Topics covered:

• Safe socialization experience with age-appropriate puppies

• Positive associations

• Body handling for grooming and vet exams

• House training, nipping, chewing and management at home

• Food and nutrition best practices

 

Skills covered:

• Name game

• Sit and Down

• Intro to stay

• Emergency recall

• Hand-targeting using the "touch" cue (disengagement and casual recall)

• Intro to "leave it" cue

• Anti-jumping

• Resource guarding prevention

• Reducing reactivity

 

Vaccination requirements:

• Distemper & Parvo (at least first round)

• Bordetella

• Rabies (if age appropriate)
